Benjamin James was born on April 11th, 2007 at 1:57 p.m. by surprise c-section. I had woken up that morning with terrible back pain that wouldn't go away no matter what I did. I finally called the midwife and they had me come in to the hospital. After taken some blood, they discovered that I had preeclampsia. We were given the choice to either be induced and try to get Ben out within 24 hours or go with the c-section. We decided to go with the c-section because I was in so much pain already with my back and my upper abdomen due to the high enzyme levels in my liver. I didn't think I could deal with induced contractions on top of that. Before we went into surgery, they let me know that the latest blood test had shown that the preeclampsia had turned into the HELLP syndrome which causes trouble with blood clotting, the liver and the kidneys. My condition had become very serious and it was a good thing we had decided to go with the c-section. Ben was born shortly after and weighed in at 6 pounds 3 ounces. He was absolutely beautiful!
A lot has changed since Ben was born. He's now 12 weeks old and smiling and laughing. We wanted to do this blog so that we could keep our friends and family up to date with what Ben is doing. So I'm going to try to do my best to update frequently with pictures. I'm so proud of my little boy and want to share him with everyone. :)
